March 16, 2024 – NEWH South Florida celebrated their Annual “Lucky You!” Hats Off Member Appreciation Brunch at the Courtyard in Coconut Grove. It was a delightful day filled with brunch, unlimited mimosas, and networking among industry peers. October 21, 2023 – NEWH/South Florida held its Annual Golden Palm Awards, a spectacular event honoring the top ID firms, presenting prestigious design awards, and distributing scholarship funds. October 22, 2021 – NEWH/South Florida hosted The Golden Palm Awards, an evening dedicated to recognizing both local designers and hospitality students. Local design firms were awarded for their most recent outstanding projects that exemplify hospitality excellence. Collegiate hospitality students were recognized for their talent and abilities through scholarships to assist in propelling them forward to their hospitality-related careers. October 16, 2020 – NEWH/South Florida held its Golden Palm Awards event where we awarded Hospitality Excellence within multiple categories including, restaurants, guestrooms, hotels, resorts, public spaces, cruise/yachts and many more. This year we also gave out $30,000 in scholarships, a Joyce Johnson Award and highlighted our Top ID firms for 2021! Click here to check out our video recording!

 

February 27, 2020 – The Monthly Mingle for NEWH South Florida included a hotel tour on February 27th at the Le Meridien Dania Beach Hotel. Cocktail hour with hors d’oeuvres followed by a guided hotel tour provided a backstage pass to the 19,000 SF of Event + Meeting Space, multiple Minimalist style decor guest rooms, TORO Latin Kitchen + La Bibloteca de Tequila library. Located just steps from the famed Design Center of the Americas, it is owned by Charles Cohen. The head designer was David Ashen from Dash Design in New York. Taking cues from the brand’s mid-century design aesthetic, the top-to-bottom conversion of the property brings to life Le Méridien’s distinctive French heritage and the allure of the Côte d’Azur to South Florida.

Throughout the hotel guests will find inspirations of the sky and sea with subtle details. For instance, the lobby chandelier represents the Constellations that the early navigators used to find their way to Fort Lauderdale through the waterways. The concept is then is further connected into the floor with custom terrazzo tile with Ode to the Indigenous people of South Florida + Morse code on the reception desk wall.

The modern guestroom design exhibits touch of blue and grey to reflect the destination, featuring custom-made headboards with copper etching with mappings of the city inlaid into the wood veneer. As well as local photography captured by Elizabeth Gill Lui that celebrates the diverse architecture and environment of Fort Lauderdale. An amazing experience; we are honored to have experienced the hospitality + generosity of the beautiful Le Meridien Dania Beach!

 

February 1, 2020 – NEWH/South Florida chapter partnered with FIU School of Architecture for the D3E student conference Saturday, February 1st. It was centered across the student body: architecture, interior architecture, landscape architecture as well as environmental and urban design. The conference highlighted the opportunity to network with professionals across multiple disciplines exposing experience + knowledge in direct relationship with the student’s portfolio professional review + job prospects.

Multiple workshops filled the morning + afternoon with an array of guest speakers; paired with a cutting-edge tradeshow to close out the day. This event provided a new way of thinking design… From a student’s perspective, Amalia Morejo (Interior design student) states. “As I walked through the venue, I saw a lot of familiar faces from the industry and faculty. I was happy to experience how this event was all about giving back to the students by providing us portfolio reviews, head shots, workshops and networking opportunities. During the industry fair we as students got the opportunity to meet reps who were teaching us about their products and industry’s associations. D3E has not only influenced the student but also the professionals and sponsors who every year get involved to make this event worth attending to.”

 

November 12, 2019 – One Design Community is a branded partnership between NEWH, IIDA, ASID and AIA, which emerged to unite the design community through philanthropy projects. On November 12th, we launched One Design Community, Gives Back! event at CVLTVRA Restaurant at The Gabriel, a Curio Hotel in Downtown Miami. Our event collected over 200+ toy donations. The donations collected benefitted the Inn-Transition South, South Miami Police Department and the Family Resource Center of South Florida. Through the One Design Community brand, all organizations have now pledged to host 1 to 3 events per year. We are excited to unite the design community and make a big impact in South Florida!

 

 

October 25, 2019 – NEWH/South Florida hosted its annual Golden Palms Awards October 25, 2019 at the Rusty Pelican on Key Biscayne, Florida. The night was set in a bright and Caribbean atmosphere filled with Cuba’s culture og vibrant décor, old world cars and flashy colors. Attendees were dressed to impress, it was a fun filled night of celebration + dancing to honor the scholarship recipients + announce the 2020 NEWH South Florida board. The videos of the student awards made it warm and emotion as they thanked our chapter for helping them financially for school and giving them better opportunities. September 26, 2019 – NEWH/South Florida held its monthly mingle on September 26th at The Wilder located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The atmosphere was ecstatic, with details of wood paneled walls and ceilings accentuating the naturist charm. Design was a sight to behold. What made this space so unique? Twenty local artists are live painting openly feeling the music while lights shine on the production of creativity. Delightful nibbles are complemented with hand crafted cocktails; highly recommend next time you are passing through.

 

 

 

August 22, 2019 – NEWH/South Florida held its monthly mingle on August 22nd at a new local gem in the heart of West Palm Beach, Florida at Todd’s on Dixie Highway. Its exhibits culinary artistry to demonstrate the idea of modern art, innovation and fine-dining shows the new push the owner is making. The restaurant venue is connected to an art museum that houses the owners work and others showing diversity in the art world and captivating the connection to food known as EmKo. We were graced with a tour of the amazing details that went into each aspect of creativity amongst all of the details within each space. In addition, we were given the opportunity to see the exterior sculpture gardens and how the pergolas which has the flexibility to function both as a stage as well as an opportunity for cooking demonstrations. The food is sourced locally and the F+B location hosts pop-up guest chef dinners and various culinary events making it vast in its potential to spike the taste buds of hoteliers as well as add to the dynamic culture!

 

June 27, 2019 – NEWH/South Florida hosted its Annual Marlins Game Event in Miami on Thursday, June 27th, it was a sight to see with one of our members catching a home run ball and meeting new faces in our networking community. All-though the game was close the Marlins didn’t pull the win but with fun, food and drinks, batter batter swing it was a hit!

 

 

 

 

 

June 6, 2019 – NEWH/South Florida hosted its Annual Bowling Fundraiser at Bowlero in Miami on Thursday, June 6th, and boy was it a ball! With over 28 participating sponsors, we boasted the highest turnout in the event’s history. Industry designers, manufacturers and clients enjoyed an evening of fun and laughter as they bowled amidst a fun Comic Book theme. We had super heroes and masked avengers taking their aim at bowling pins. Check out some of the pictures to see how these teams truly took the theme to heart. May 23, 2019 – NEWH/South Florida partnered with IIDA to host this wonderful event to network and recognize the work of Top ID firm Big Time Design. The concept discussion was insightful with the idea of a beer garden and eatery infused; it arouses the sense of community and solidarity of others. The turnout was amazing and so many great people within the design community itself showed support and fellowship. Great food, fun games and enjoying each other’s company is what networking is all about. Thank you to IIDA for joining us in this event and helping make this another successful mingle!

 

April 24, 2019 – NEWH/South Florida joined with Brown Jordan at there newly renovated showroom to have a night filled with fun, magic and outdoor furniture. The event was to showcase the new collection Oscar, from Ann Marie Vering. The new president David Kennedy and Florida Sales Representative Lawrence Weiner from Lawrence and Associates discussed the new changes at Brown Jordan and the development of their brand. They have revamped the logo switched to a contemporary and modern edge style to bring their products to what they are today. The new collection is sophisticated and pays homage to brands from the beginning with materials and craftsmanship. Lastly, we finished the night with a magic show for the books presented by the great Jonathan Black – Master Magician. Funny, fascinating and one to remember.

 

April 6, 2019 – NEWH/South Florida celebrated design excellence and scholarship with commemorative Members Only & Top ID Appreciation Brunch on Saturday, April 6, 2019. With the beautiful glass surrounds in the atrium of the Coral Gables Resort and the amazing well-dressed individuals this was a sight to see. Our sponsors, design guests and industry professionals enjoyed an afternoon of networking and delicious brunch. March 28, 2019 – Our NEWH South Florida Chapter came together at the monthly mingle to enjoy good food and great company as we networked and took in the outside area of this lovely establishment that is in a good area within the community. We had great fun and good conversations as we enjoyed each others companies.

 

 

 

March 12, 2019 – NEWH/South Florida hosted a Wine & Design focused on Asian cuisine with industry sponsors and ID sponsored individuals from various firms from across South Florida. Learning to cook with adventure and excitement, The Real Food Academy gave a great show and assistance with helping members and guest learn the art of cooking Asian dishes. From Traditional Dumplings, Beef seared salad with ginger dressing to Sushi and Banana Flambé for dessert it was a night to remember.

 

 

February 28, 2019 – Our NEWH South Florida members and guest enjoyed a fun and informational evening at the new restaurant known as Etaru Los Olas, a Japanese Grill and bar located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida Designed by Giancarlo Pietri from Urban Robots Associates Architecture Firm. The food was amazing with the focus to detail and infuse of Asian culinary cuisine. The decor was elegant and created an immersing feel of culture.

 

 

 

February 9, 2019 – It was an honor to be the chosen city host for the NEWH Leadership Conference. Every two years the event pivots locations across the US. We welcomed all aspects of hospitality: designers, brand + ownership representatives, vendors, + aspiring students. A big thank you to all the sponsors who helped make the show a great success at the JW Marriott Marquis Miami. The speakers provided words of encouragement + insight to the growth curve of the industry, as well as technology advancement experience and predictions of design development. One of the most cherished memories was the captivating stories of the scholarship recipients to the powerful movement of Generation Z. As a final Bon Voyage the NEWH South Florida Chapter hosted the Closing Party on the Vista Terrace at the beautiful Frost Science Museum.

January 23, 2019 – NEWH/South Florida members and guest enjoyed a fun fill night at the American Airline Arena, socializing and enjoying good food and drinks while watching the game to be immersed in the hospitality of the basketball scene in Miami.

December 14, 2017 – In December, we partnered with the South Florida Fire Fighters to collect toys for kids in need. All toys collected were donated to the Foster Children of Florida’s Medical Foster Care Program. Thank you to all our generous members and guests for their toy donations. It was a festive night indeed!

Located on Belle Isle, The Standard Spa is less a “hotel,” and more an alluring spa with Guestrooms & Public Spaces set amidst peaceful and provocative tropical gardens.
