December 1, 2009 - Holiday Event
The NEWH/Greater New York chapter held a Holiday Toy Drive hosted by Martin Albert Interiors. Toys for over 100 kids from Kips Boys and Girl Club were donated by members and guests and presented at a second party a week later for the kids. Everyone had a great time! Click below for pictures

"Sustainable Interior Environments" - Diann Barbacci, Director of Sustainability, Mohawk Industries, provided the 50 industry guests with an informative presentation on the latest developments in LEED certification.
Diann covered a broad range of Contract A&D topics. One example; how the design of office buildings has evolved in response to the need to utilize our natural resources. In the past, most office building design plans would include the "corner office", reserved for senior management.
Today, office buildings are designed to maximize the ability to capture the sun's uv rays through solar technology. Those corner offices are a thing of the past.
The presentation was concluded by a You Tube video of the first Gold level LEEDS certification of a new building located in Greensboro, NC, which happens to be where Diann is from.
Everyone was provided a bound copy of the presentation, and, for those pursuing Continuing Education, 1 CEU credit.
THANKS TO: This "Green" event was graciously hosted by our good friends at Durkan Hospitality. Hors D'Oeuvres andNew York "gourmet" pizza was provided by Durkan. Beer, wine and soft drinks were provided by Cerami Associates.
We at the NEWH Greater NY Chapter Board want to express our sincere gratitude to these industry partners for an enjoyable and informative evening.
Pat Greenwald, NEWH, GNY VP of Administration, in her opening remarks expressed gratitude on behalf of the rest of the board members to Hailee Milko of Durkan for all the time, effort and coordination she provided, to make the event the success that it was.
In addition, special thanks were expressed to Hanne Elstrom for her continued support and assistance in the planning and participation of not just this, but most every event our chapter has.
