Ashley Stephens

VP/Administration

Ashley Stephens is a hospitality interior designer with over a decade of experience shaped by her time at several well-regarded design firms, working across restaurants, bars, lounges, hotels, and commercial hospitality spaces. A Purdue University graduate originally from Indiana, she has called Arizona home for many years and is actively involved with NEWH, where she values the community, events, and connections it fosters. Ashley has recently taken the step to venture out on her own, building an independent design practice while also working with her husband on opening a brewery in Utah. Outside the studio, she is an avid traveler, book club regular, crystal collector, devoted Chicago sports fan, and unapologetically enthusiastic about Halloween.

Shaped by my Scandinavian heritage, I have a love for simplicity, resilience, and a straightforward approach to life. Elements of everything I love are reflected in my home and cooking style. Moving from the Pacific Northwest to Arizona in 2020 was a healthy shock to my system. One that has added a new influence on all things southwestern.

I started Dyer Lesja LLC after moving to Arizona and leaving a business partnership in Seattle. I find Arizona to be very welcoming, meeting so many wonderful people, which made me feel right at home.

My husband and I live in Wickenburg, Arizona, which results in some interesting responses from Arizonans who live in the “big city”. Number one response: “Oh, that town you drive through on your way to Las Vegas”. I love the fact that a cowboy wearing spurs in the grocery store is a common occurrence, and the downtown saddle shop has a screen door and smells of leather. It is a special place.

Looking forward to more of this!

Scholarship

I started KatzDesignGroup in 2003 when we relocated from Boston to Phoenix. I designed corporate interiors for the first 12 years of my career and wanted KDG to be different. I was craving more ways to be creative and build more dynamic spaces. I was fortunate that I found my first restaurant client and never looked back. At KDG, we are not preoccupied with creating our signature style instead, we provide design solutions highlighting each client’s unique style, reflecting their brand personality.

2024 is a year of new challenges and milestones. On January 4, I dove my 100th dive, a night dive. I am co-teaching the hospitality design course at ASU for the first time. For the first time, we will be traveling to Africa to see both the beauty of the Serengeti and the tranquility below the water. For my sanity, I box every day at my gym. You will always find me listening to Audible for my multiple bookclubs as I drive around Phoenix to my jobsites.

I am looking forward to serving on the board and promoting NEWH and scholarship to the wide variety of students in our incredible industry.

This is my 4th year on the NEWH Arizona/Southwest Board and each year just gets better! It has been so wonderful to see our industry bounce back after the pandemic with a stronger and more united presence. During the pandemic, NEWH served as a much needed platform for our members to continue to connect even when the world was forced to physically disconnect. As the Director of Marketing this year I hope to help our members continue their upward climb by supporting their efforts, showcasing their accomplishments and encouraging those just starting out in Hospitality to continue to pursue their dreams. We accomplish more when we unite and celebrate what each individual brings to the table. It’s simple, it’s hospitable, it’s hospitality!

What can we help you find?
