DESCRIPTION: Rooftop decks create valuable living and recreational space for building owners, residents, and clients. Accommodating restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, and everything from residential to government buildings, rooftop deck systems offer the design flexibility to create versatile, unique outdoor spaces over any structural surface. This course explores the features, surface materials, and design options for rooftop deck systems and provides an overview of recommended planning and installation guidelines. Health Care, Govt. Institutional, Facilities Management, Office/Corporate, Hospitality/Entertainment, Retail/Store Planning OBJECTIVES: At the end of this program, participants will be able to: 1) explain building acoustics, including how sound travels and the importance of and requirements for controlling sound to prevent detrimental effects on occupants, 2) list the ASTM test methods used to determine the sound performance of an assembly, 3) describe techniques to control excess noise that negatively affects building occupant well-being, including blocking and absorbing sound and addressing flanking paths, 4) compare the types and features of floor underlayment for impact sound control that is essential for occupant comfort, and 5) discuss considerations, installation tips, and general guidelines for installing floor underlayment for sound control.
