DESCRIPTION: Engineered stone is a decorative, durable surfacing material used in walls, floors, countertops, seating, stairs, vanities, and showers in commercial and residential applications. This course explores engineered stone, including its unique properties, fabrication, installation, and maintenance. OBJECTIVES: At the end of this program, participants will be able to: 1) examine the technical and performance characteristics of modern engineered stone and explain why engineered stone provides durable, long-lasting, impact-resistant horizontal and vertical surfaces, 2) identify the ingredients in engineered stone and explain why it is a sustainable surfacing solution for commercial and residential applications, 3) discuss why an antimicrobial technology used with some engineered stone products provides a continuous defense against the growth of microbes for the lifetime of the product, and 4) examine best practices for incorporating engineered stone into commercial and residential projects.
