Caroline Cundall

Caroline Cundall

President

Caroline has recently set up her own company House Of Caro to champion responsible and eco-ethical design initiatives in hospitality. Up until recently she was working as a design director for IHG overseeing luxury design projects for InterContinental hotels in Europe. Prior to this she worked for 15 years at GA Design as an Associate and head of the FF&E Design Department running a team of FF&E designers along with her own projects; working on hotel interior designs from concept to completion while sourcing new products, manufacturers and artisans along the way.

Beginning her career as a fashion designer in her home country of New Zealand, Caroline specialised in tailoring with her own menswear company. She moved to London in 1992 and with the prospect of a new city came the opportunity for a new career move into interior design. Caroline worked initially in residential interior design for John Stefanidis before moving into hospitality design, all the time learning and advancing her self-taught interiors knowledge.

Passionate about the Hospitality world; Caroline joined the United Kingdom chapter of NEWH and stepped into the role of president at the end of 2019.

Caroline lives in London and is currently adding to her workload with a home renovation project, a massive demanding garden and recent adoption of two stray ginger cats.

Libby Bull

Libby Bull

VP/Administration

Libby studied Interior Architecture & Design at Middlesex University in London and began her career designing retail outlets and spas for up-market cosmetics company Molton Brown. Since then she has gained considerable experience across a broad range of commercial interiors; from cosmetic and car showrooms to libraries, education centres and restaurants.

For the last 9 years, Libby has specialized in Hospitality, designing a series of luxury hotels and resorts for both individual owners and some of the world’s leading Operators. Now a Senior Designer Project Manager at G.A Design, based in the London Office, but working internationally across all 4 offices she is responsible for overseeing 1-2 projects at a time and each project from the initial design proposal through to final on-site completion. In her spare time she enjoys going to cinema, exploring markets and takes every opportunity to travel.

Kathryn Quinn

Kathryn Quinn

VP/Development

Having grown up in a family-run construction company, Kathryn was destined for a career in design and the built environment and studied Interior Architecture & Design at Leeds College of Art & Design. Her career began at Soon Interiors, an Architectural Interiors firm in Belfast, where she was involved in a variety of commercial design projects including bar, restaurant, retail and office spaces across the globe.

Later stepping into the niche world of carpet design at Ulster Carpets, Kathryn moved to London, where she first became involved in NEWH as Hospitality Chair. This (along with her ability to talk to anyone!) enabled her to build a large contact base of inspiring people across every aspect of the industry and she feels she owes NEWH for giving her the contacts and confidence to dive back into interior design. As a designer for AD Associates; a hospitality and travel design consultancy, Kathryn’s experience spans FF&E and architectural interiors and she has recently worked on SAGA Spirit of Adventure from concept through to construction phase.

Outside of work and NEWH, Kathryn is always planning her next adventure and is as happy underwater as she is hiking in the hills. An avid music theatre fan, she performs in an annual a 48 hour pantomime, and lives by the motto “Never stop wondering, Never stop wandering”.

Christine (Chrissie) Granger

Christine (Chrissie) Granger

Secretary

Chrissie studied Art History at Warwick University and started her career at Bonham’s Auction House, in their flagship store in London.

Wanting a more hands on creative role, Chrissie moved to an Art Consultancy position in the Hospitality Industry, and has since worked alongside Interior Designers across a broad spectrum of International projects, from High End Hotels and Cruise Liners through to Spas, Care Homes, and Pubs and Restaurants.

With 10 years’ experience, Chrissie is now an Associate at Indigo Art Ltd, which offers both Art Consultancy and a Fulfilment service; from its large manufacturing facility in the Wirral. Her role is to oversee the creative development of all projects she manages, from initial concept stage to on site installation.

After attending a few NEWH events and really enjoying the fresh, fun and friendly atmosphere of the different variety of events, she was keen to find out more and take a more active role in the organisation. She will work alongside Kathryn on the marketing team to spread the news about NEWH and attract more industry members to the group.

In her spare time, Chrissie will most likely be found outdoors with her faithful cockapoo in tow.

Jonathan Young

Jonathan Young

Past President/Parliamentarian

Jonathan is a professional sales leader with over 35 years of experience in the hospitality FF&E industry. He has been involved in sales, sales and marketing management, and senior director level positions at manufacturers providing product for the hotel and leisure sectors. His experience has been primarily with floorcovering and carpet, most recently as Managing Director of Axminster Carpets. He has now launched his own company, Jonathan Young Associates, providing consultancy and product sourcing to the hospitality interior furnishings sector. Jonathan’s leadership and management skills will help establish a clearly defined strategy for business and understand how it needs to be implemented for success. His contacts across the US and Europe can help navigate the sales and marketing process for companies looking to expand into new markets.

As Chairman of the BCFA from 2011 until 2014, leading the Board of the trade association that supports the British Contract Furnishings Association, and currently as Vice President of International Relations of NEWH Inc and Past President of the UK chapter of the NEWH, he has a good understanding of business within the hospitality and commercial markets.

Rebekah Ellis

Rebekah Ellis

Executive Advisor

Rebekah studied ‘Spatial Design’ at Arts University Bournemouth and began her career as an Interior Designer with husband and wife team, Goff Associates, where she first experienced the hospitality sector.

After taking a break to raise her 2 children in Niger, West Africa, Rebekah returned in 2006 to join the team at Charles Leon Associates where she assisted with business development, before gaining procurement skills at Benjamin West. In 2009, she joined the cruise sector as a FF&E Designer at AD associates where she has enjoyed years of collaboration with manufacturers, suppliers and representatives.

Rebekah’s various NEWH roles have given her opportunities for personal growth, and being awarded the Joyce Johnson Award in recognition of her service to the NEWH UK Chapter was the highlight of her career.

A few things you might not know about Rebekah are that she once enjoyed being behind the scenes at the Nürburgring pitstops when a friend had a car in some of the races. She also helped out on a friend’s dairy farm by milking cows and driving tractors to move mountains of manure into the slurry pit. The biggest challenge was raising a young family on the edge of the Sahara desert with only solar power as a source of electricity!
She is very proud of her children. Her son is now studying Illustration at Arts University Bournemouth and her daughter is studying Photo journalism in Cardiff – the passion finally realised

Kevin Swart

Kevin Swart

Membership

Kevin hails from South Africa and has over 25 years’ experience in the Interiors sector.
He began his professional studies in Interior Design, before moving to Shoe Design. After completing his studies in Milan at the world-renowned school of shoe and handbag design, Arsutoria Milano, he went on to design for a leading shoe manufacturer. However, his love of Interior Design took over, and after 5 years he took the challenge and launched his own Interior Design business – which saw him completing numerous large residential projects in South Africa and the UK.

During this time he realised that although his passion was creative, his strength was in communication and project management, and so when he relocated to the UK in 2005 it was a natural progression into business development within the Hospitality supply sector, where he has found his niche, as Sales Director at Northern Lights – a leading Bespoke UK Lighting Manufacturer – a job he loves!!!

Kevin’s strength in leadership and management, along with his passion for good design has allowed him to build relationship with leading Interior design studios here in the UK and to be involved with the design, manufacture and supply of interior furnishings in numerous 4 and 5 star Hotels globally…something he does not take for granted.

“I cherish the ongoing relationships I have established in my career, which carry me from one project to the next. I have learned to value the mentor figures that have been involved in my life, and now to hopefully do the same for the next generation.
Don’t ever forget where you came from.”

Alison Kells

Alison Kells

Programming

Alison began her career at Ulster Carpets working at its manufacturing headquarters in Northern Ireland, and from there transferred to work in the busy and creative London office in Clerkenwell, where she has been for nearly 3 years. As a Contract Sales Executive she supplies luxury custom designed Axminster carpets to the hospitality industry across London and the UK. She loves working alongside their talented in-house design team to see beautiful designs come to life.

Following a year on the NEWH committee, Alison moved into her current role as Programming Director. In the absence of a usually exciting and varied programme of events she plans to keep the NEWH community connected at this challenging time through virtual events where possible! Stay tuned!

Away from the office Alison enjoys hiking and counts summiting Mt. Kilimanjaro in minus 15 degree temperatures as her greatest achievement. Alison has been fortunate to set up her office working from her family farm in Northern Ireland and so when she is not selling carpet she is learning about the wonderful renewable resource of wool, with the help of her newest colleague pictured.

Jonathon Wilkins

Jonathon Wilkins

Equity, Inclusion, & Diversity

Jon has taken a winding path into the interiors industry. Starting with studying Science of Psychology due to his fascination with the way the people interact (and being a sucker for the punishment of Math!), it progressed into the world of Technology. Working as a sales manager on complex wide scale Tech projects for some of the world largest companies, he realised it was a little too impersonal and so joined the Interiors world with leading wallcovering company Phillip Jeffries. As International Contract Sales Manager he oversees hundreds of projects on all continent and his aim is to bring an analytical mind, an extensive project knowledge and sales management into the commercial world for Phillip Jeffries.

Outside of work, Jon loves sport. From scaling cliff faces, running through muddy fields and diving with sharks he enjoys any challenge.

Alicia Sheber

Alicia Sheber

Marketing

Alicia Sheber joined the NEWK UK board in 2019 and was previously a board member of NEWH’s Rocky Mountain chapter in 2003 and 2004. Through her company, Read Thread, Alicia is a ghostwriter helping creative, non-linear thinkers tell their stories and venture capitalists develop business proposals and white papers. A contributing editor for HOTELS magazine, and previously the international editor of Boutique Design magazine, she draws on “insider knowledge” gained through her interior design degree and creation of global destinations whilst employed by studios in Denver, Colorado, and London, UK.

After completing an MBA in International Marketing and Luxury Branding at ESLSCA in Paris, she worked with a London-based communications agency partnering with top interior designers, architects, and trade shows. Her subsequent ghostwriting certification from California State University, Long Beach, led to Alicia becoming a ghostwriter for the University of Cambridge’s Masters in Entrepreneurship programme, working with business leaders to transform their professional knowledge into teaching materials. She also sold wine for several years and developed a love of gastronomy: a solid foundation for writing the “Going Out” chapter in Explorer Publishing’s Complete Residents’ Guide to Paris.

Alicia’s degree in world religions ignited her lifelong passion to learn about the infinite paths for making sense of the world.

Sophie Greene

Hospitality

After graduating from the first stage of her architectural training at the University of Brighton, Sophie first experienced the profession as a volunteer on a number of building projects. The first was in Tanzania working with charity Village Africa and local builders on projects to support teaching, building and health volunteers.

On returning home she was awarded an internship with an architectural practice in her native Bath. Working with Designscape and The Neros Foundation, the brief was to design a medical centre to serve a rural community in Flores, Indonesia, and to establish a sustainable building technology using locally sourced materials. Later that year Sophie and a colleague made the trip to Flores to pass on their newly acquired knowledge of compressed earth blocks and bamboo roof trusses to the local team of builders and assist with construction.

Sophie is celebrating her tenth year living in London, initially moving here to continue her studies in Architecture. She gained experience of the hospitality sector with AD Associates on a number of cruise projects and, after attending lots of NEWH events with her colleagues, Rebekah & Kathryn, Sophie joined the board in September 2018.

Now working with Michaelis Boyd Associates on residential projects in the UK, Sophie is gearing up to complete the third and final stage of her architectural training, after which she will finally be able to call herself an architect!

Having recently adopted an 11 year old kitty called Squash, she is enjoying her new role as a cat Mum!
