DESCRIPTION: For generations, designers have turned to the beauty and functionality offered by terrazzo. In recent years, new technologies and materials mean terrazzo can respond to the needs of the most modern buildings. This course covers the evolution of terrazzo, terrazzo flooring systems, and the environmental advantages of terrazzo and how hey apply to sustainable initiatives for indoor air quality, recycling, and resource efficiency. OBJECTIVES: At the end of this program, participants will be able to: 1) define terrazzo, list its components, and argue why it should be specified, 2) discuss the environmental impacts of terrazzo flooring and how it contributes to sustainable building design, 3) differentiate between the different types of terrazzo flooring systems based on their composition, advantages, and applications, and, 4) outline the steps involved in the installation of two types of terrazzo flooring systems to ensure a safe, durable project.
