AEC Daily — IDCEC Course# AEC1345 Credit: 0.1HSW
DESCRIPTION: When deciding on outdoor cabinetry, understanding the available material options is essential to the selection of a long-lasting, sustainable choice. This course reviews the pros and cons of these options, with a focus on the attributes, sustainability, and performance characteristics of marine-grade high-density polyethylene (HDPE) material, engineered to withstand extreme conditions while maintaining optimal structural integrity. OBJECTIVES: At the end of this program, participants will be able to: 1) explain the importance of specifying sustainable and resilient cabinetry solutions that minimize environmental impacts, 2) recall the production method and applications of weatherproof HDPE material and the ways in which HDPE mitigates its environmental and human health impacts, 3) contrast the performance and sustainability features of HDPE and alternative outdoor cabinetry materials, including wood, stucco and stone, stainless steel, and PVC, and 4) discuss the aesthetics, styles, and specification considerations pertaining to HDPE cabinetry, as well as the optimum construction method for durability and long service life.
