Printed
A printed carpet is a type of carpet where a pattern or design is applied to the surface of a pre-constructed, typically plain, base fabric using various printing technologies. The process is similar to large-scale fabric printing, contrasting with traditional methods where individual yarns are dyed prior to the carpet's construction (pre-dyed or solution-dyed).

Key Characteristics
  • Manufacturing Process: The base carpet (often made of nylon, polyester, or wool/nylon blends) is manufactured first, usually with uncolored yarn, and the design is then applied to the top layer.
  • Design Flexibility: This method allows for virtually unlimited colors, intricate patterns, photographic quality designs, and high-resolution images that are difficult or impossible to achieve with traditional weaving or tufting methods. Custom designs, such as company logos for trade shows or unique home decor patterns, are a major advantage.
  • Techniques: Common printing techniques include digital dye infusion (inkjet technology) and screen printing. Digital printing is known for its high precision and speed.
  • Durability and Quality: The quality can vary. The dye penetration typically only reaches the top layer of the yarn, meaning that wear and tear might reveal the white backing sooner than with solution-dyed options. However, modern digital dye infusion processes can bond the dye chemically into the fiber for increased durability.
  • Cost and Use: Printed carpets are often a more affordable alternative to expensive, custom-woven carpets. They are ideal for areas with moderate traffic, such as residential spaces, hotel guest rooms, and are popular for short-term uses like trade shows and exhibitions.
