HOTEL

Ferns are extremely resilient plants, evidenced by the length of their existence on earth. Indeed, ferns first entered the geological record 360 million years ago, in the late devonian period; however, the fern species still existing today only appeared 145 million years ago, in the early cretaceous period. The sporophyte is responsible for the fern’s resilience, as the sporophyte contains structures known as sporangium, which open in dry, or otherwise adverse conditions, and allow spores to be carried on breezes towards better prospects. These spores, upon landing on a promising patch of earth, develop into gametophytes, and once said gametophytes become fertilized, grow into the sporophyte structure that is depicted throughout prince’s work.

Skyward Fern
In the face of severe environmental adversity, ferns are the first plant species to re-appear in abundance. They not only survive but actually flourish after volcanic eruptions, meteor strikes, and devastating lava flows. They show tremendous tenacity and resiliency despite the indescribable harshness of the newly imposed environment. So, in the face of a devastating pandemic, we focused the rooftop concept on thriving ferns as a metaphor, as an ode to the human spirit – we WILL endure, we WILL re-emerge, and we WILL thrive once again.

The rooftop is no longer just a bar, or just a pool, but rather a re imagined place to spend the morning, the day, the evening, and well into the night. It is versatile, alive, fresh and flowing. The entire deck is slightly submerged, ankle deep, a gently flowing extension of the infinity pool. The bar has no barstools, it is not meant for tight congregation, but is rather a focal, organic element where bartenders prepare drinks to be delivered to guests. Cabanas have operable access from the rear for servers to safely and privately deliver trays of food and drinks. The entire pool deck, from cabanas to cantilevered oceanfront firepits, is conducive to Food and Beverage. Spaces are easily transformed to open air concerts, yoga decks, movie amphitheaters, and barefoot cocktail parties. So spend an hour, or spend the day – feel the cooling water underfoot, feel the warming sun on your skin, feel the ocean breeze cleaning your soul… and allow yourself the freedom to grow.
