We can hardly believe that 2026 is here, and are especially excited as this year marks the 90th Anniversary of the Negro Travelers’ Guide: The Green Book. As many of you know, The Historic Magnolia House is one of only a handful of remaining Green Book sites in North Carolina, just 1 of approximately 5 still standing out of 327 documented locations statewide.
We are thrilled to share that The Historic Magnolia House now has a sibling. We have successfully preserved another historic Negro Traveler Hotel in Eastern North Carolina. She is stunning, her history is powerful, and her restoration will serve as a catalyst for revitalizing the historic Black “Wall Street” corridor in downtown Wilson. The Magnolia Movement continues—and there could not be a more fitting way to honor the 90th Green Book anniversary.
Just as we did with Magnolia House, our team has partnered with incredibly talented UNCG Interior Architecture students to imagine how this site can be restored and how its story should be told. Traditionally, the Magnolia House Foundation selects one student portfolio to integrate into the final design and brings that student onto the project team to help implement the restoration. This year, however, the level of talent, innovation, and forward-thinking was so exceptional that it challenged us to ask: How can we elevate and amplify the potential of all these students?
With that in mind, the Magnolia House Foundation is hosting an Interior Architecture Career Networking Mixer on
Monday, April 27 | 5:00–7:00 PM at The Historic Magnolia House: 442 Gorrell Street, Downtown Greensboro
Senior Interior Architecture students will be on site with their portfolios and resumes, ready to share their work and connect with industry professionals. As many of you will already be in town for 2026 Spring Market, we invite you and your teams to stop by, meet the students, and explore opportunities for internships, mentorships, or full-time roles within the design industry.
If you plan to attend, please complete the brief questionnaire here to register. A flyer is attached for your reference. Please also feel free to share this invitation with your broader design networks and partners.
Let’s support the next generation of designers and help these students land jobs. As always, thank you for being a part of the Magnolia Movement!
