The art form of swing dance, specifically, “DC Hand Dance” is derived from the Lindy Hop and the Jitterbug in the 1920’s. In the 1950s, dancers in the District of Columbia developed their own variety. It is described as smooth foot movements and ongoing hand connection/interaction between the dancers, which is why it’s called “Hand Dancing”. While it lost popularity in the disco era, Hand Dance experienced a revival in the Washington dance scene during the 1980s.

In honor of Black History Month, we aim to introduce the hospitality community to an evening filled with dance, socializing, and networking alongside industry peers and friends. Get ready to Immerse yourself in the rich history of this African American dance!

Basic “Hand Dancing” lessons will be provided from a hand dance master, coach, instructor, and swing dance champion along with open dancing to follow. Dance Instructor: Mr. Kevin Fitzhugh of “SPINS-N-TURNS”

Ticket includes hors d’oeuvres and 2 drink tickets.

Event Timeline:
• 5:30pm – 6:30pm – Arrival, Happy Hour, and Bites
• 6:30pm – 7:00pm – Welcome Message
• 7:00pm – 8:00pm – Beginner Dance lesson w/Dance Instructor
• 7:30pm – 9:30pm – Open dancing, Live music, and Networking Time
