At Ball State, we’re more than just educators—we’re educational entrepreneurs. Combining top-flight talent with the top-notch resources we have to offer, our students and faculty inject endless energy and creativity into what they teach and how they learn. The result—a university The Princeton Review calls one of the best in the Midwest.
Academics

To fulfill our mission of fundamentally changing our students, researchers, and external partners, we offer comprehensive academic opportunities, including about 190 undergraduate majors and preprofessional programs and more than 140 graduate programs, including certificates and master’s, specialist, and doctoral degrees. Our programs in architecture, telecommunications, landscape architecture, education, entrepreneurship, and online master’s degree in nursing are consistently ranked among the best in the nation. That excellence is only possible because of the quality of our faculty and their commitment to teaching. More than 90 percent of our classes are taught by professors. That’s almost unheard of at an institution of Ball State’s size.
Entrepreneurial Learning

We believe that for an educational experience to be successful, it should be just that—an experience. So we’ve made a unique commitment to immersive learning programs that incorporate research, projects with community partners, and capstone experiences into the curriculum. Acting, musical theatre, and telecommunications students participate in talent showcases in New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles. Students in our entrepreneurship program face the ultimate pass or fail test—to graduate, they must pitch a business plan that a panel of experts deems viable.
Community Engagement
Carnegie Foundation

Through the Division of Government Relations and Community Engagement, Ball State is committed to establishing and nurturing collaboration among faculty, students, and community partners to address society’s most pressing needs in a reciprocal and mutually beneficial way. Our efforts were officially recognized in 2015 with the elective Community Engagement Classification from the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.
Diversity and Inclusion

We celebrate diversity and inclusion as part of our community and culture. Part of our responsibility is actively living out our Beneficence Pledge, whether you’re a student, faculty member, or staffer. Among the pledge’s tenets are “to treat each person in the Ball State community with civility, courtesy, compassion, and dignity.” We also vow “to respect and learn from differences in people, ideas, and opinions.”

We realize that nurturing this environment requires us to be vigilant, actively learn about others, and create a safe place to listen to and value others’ viewpoints. These actions make us more understanding people, strengthen our commitment to higher learning, and better prepare each of us for success and fulfillment in life.
Technology and Innovation

Emerging media are deeply ingrained in our academic and immersive learning experiences. We’re home to the leading experts in the field, and we provide them with top-notch facilities to conduct truly groundbreaking research. Our growing emphasis on new ideas, technology transfer, and commercialization provide the support faculty need to bring their ideas to market and benefit Indiana’s economy.
