Donna Melvin has spent over 30 years in the textile industry, acquiring expertise in design, production and sales.
She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Textile Design from the Philadelphia College of Textile Science in 1973. Her career began in a Brooklyn knit-wear factory working as a knit designer whose accounts included Anne Klein, Donna Karan and Leslie Fay. During this period, Donna developed good friends and contacts, identified reliable factories and garnered global experience – experience that that led her, in 1986, to found DKR Concepts Inc., a 100% woman-owned business.
Donna has provided textile designs to finished products for the apparel and hospitality industries. Accounts include private label programs for Federated Department Stores, and numerous catalogs such as Boston Proper and Mark Fore & Strike. From 2006 to 2011, she collaborated with Andrew Morgan of the Morgan Collection, Inc., and was responsible the product development of luxury blankets, pillows, and bedding for hospitality, spa and retail; many of these products have received awards for their design innovations. She also developed products, distributed worldwide, for accounts such as Disney Cruise Line, Hilton Hotels, Marriott International and Kimpton Hotels.
