The College of Arts and Sciences promotes active, collaborative, applied, and innovative teaching in disciplines that are fundamental to a university’s purpose. The College believes that the teaching of these disciplines hinges upon ongoing creativity, curiosity, and inquiry in all fields of faculty expertise.
The College of Arts and Sciences promotes theoretical, scholarly, and creative activities in the fine and performing arts, the humanities, and the social and natural sciences and believes that such activities provide the foundation for the education of students as well as service to and engagement with surrounding communities. The College further believes that such activities provide the foundation for the education of students and offers unique opportunities for service to, and engagement with, surrounding communities.
The College of Arts and Sciences offers a liberal arts education that embodies the five principles embraced by the general education program: knowledge of the disciplines, effective communication, quantitative reasoning, perspectives on a diverse world, and learning beyond the classroom
The College of Arts and Sciences supports majors and graduate degree programs that integrate the research of its faculty into academic programs and teaching in order to enhance student skills in both pure and applied inquiry and to prepare students for professional careers and informed citizenship.
The College of Arts and Sciences fosters success for all its members, to prepare them for service in local, national, and global communities and organizations, and to instill knowledge of and respect for human diversity in all its many manifestations.
