The Drexel Design Research for Health Lab undertakes evidence based design and our work centers on five foundational principles within the urban housing environment: privacy, security, access to healthy nourishment, access to green space, and self-efficacy enhancement through an environment of care and creativity.
These principles have emerged through intensive study and problem definition within the urban environment. The interdisciplinary members of the DDR 4 Health use a modular and community-oriented approach to develop a series of customizable tools and service-oriented interventions for both home environments and shelters. We maintain the understanding that no matter the structure of domestic space, it is considered a health care site. DDR 4 Health collaborates with housing services and related care groups to co-develop human-centered designs for shared spaces within housing, catering to individuals experiencing housing insecurity. Health equity is driven and maintained through our living spaces and the relative safety and security of our lives.
