October 28, 2021 – The NEWH Northwest chapter was overjoyed to finally meet in person at our annual Savor fundraising event in October were we honored our 2021 scholarship winners and TopID firms, thanked our annual sponsors, and raised money for next year’s scholarships through a silent and live auction. Although the informal happy hour we chose to go with was a diversion from the formal sit down meal that Savor has been is the past, this setup allowed for easier social distancing and much needed networking opportunities. All in all the event was a success, and everyone was thrilled to see each other in person after so long!

 

June 1, 2021 – Recently completed by 2021 TopID winner Gensler, the NEWH Northwest chapter was treated to a virtual tour of the unique members-only club known as The Collective. The physical space which houses The Collective is comfortable, functional and adaptive and acts as both a basecamp and a launchpad to foster interaction and meet the dynamic needs of The Collective’s members and their endeavors. Think less skyscraper penthouse and more old-school public house, or repurposed warehouse. The atmosphere generates a palpable energy that sparks creativity and drives positive member experiences.

 

May 20, 2021 – The NEWH Northwest Chapter had the pleasure of virtually touring the studio space at Hennepin Made. We were treated to a few of the studio artisans demonstrating their craft hand-blowing Hennipin Made’s signature lighting pieces. Truly, an awe-inspiring and amazing event that everyone was thrilled to attend!

 

 

 

 

 

January 28, 2021 – The NEWH Northwest Chapter kicked off the 2021 event calendar with an extremely successful virtual hotel tour of the 7 Cedars Hotel in Sequim, Washington. This project was recently completed by 2021 TopID winner Rice Fergus Miller. At the direction of the leadership of 7 Cedars Hotel and the Jamestown S’Klallum Tribe, the RFM team worked closely with local artists to curate an extensive art collection with a goal to showcase both Coast Salish artists and local iconic Olympic Peninsula landscapes. You’ll have to visit the resort to take in this immense collection, which is a journey unto itself.

 

October 24, 2019 – The Northwest Chapter of NEWH presented an exciting Winter Hotel Tour Featuring the Hoxton, OR. The Hoxton is a series of open-house hotels inspired by the diversity and originality of the streets and scenes that the hotels are centered in, lucky for us there is one here in the Northwest in Portland! Thank you to the Hoxton Hotel owners, designers and supporting vendors that made this event a true success.

 

 

September 24, 2019 – NEWH Pacific Northwest Chapter presented a Regional Trade show at the Hyatt Regency and post event networking event at Mr. West Cafe Bar. This event provides a unique opportunity for vendors to visit with existing Clients and meet new prospects, while showcasing their newest products and services in an intimate, business casual environment. Food and cocktail receptions held on the trade show floor area, allow for additional networking and extended sales opportunities.

 

July 25, 2019 – Thursday July 25th 2019 was the 7th Annual Savor Uncorked Fundraiser for the Pacific Northwest NEWH Chapter. Savor Uncorked is our preeminent annual event, celebrating scholarship and excellence in our industry through an extraordinary evening of outstanding food, wine and fabulous auction items. Contributing to future of the Hospitality Industry, this event raises money for student scholarships, awards our deserving recipients, honors our regional TOP ID design firms, offers exposure to NEWH and provides a great feeling that comes with helping others.

 

June 25, 2019 – Back by popular demand, NEWH Northwest presented Sip N’ Sketch Round II! Many incoming interior designers as well as seasoned designers and product reps gathered for a fantastic night of sketching, networking and eats at Seattle’s MG2’s office. The Northwest Chapter has received requests to recreate Sip N’ Sketch in other cities and regional design schools, since first launch in September of 2017 and are very proud to follow through! Architect and designer Stephen Busto led the group in rediscovering the art of hand sketching and rendering of light, shade and shadow. This interactive workshop helped participants gain confidence in quickly communicating design concepts to clients and colleagues.

 

April 18, 2019 – NEWH Pacific Northwest Chapter presented a Spring Hotel Tour Featuring Embassy Suites, Seattle. The chapter had 117 attendees, the largest attendance yet for this chapters hotel tours! Approximately 50 percent of the attendees were non-members and are actively being recruiting. PacNor continues to add culinary into their roster of programs; with have hotel managers and chefs looking into membership as well. All enjoyed the tour and views of our beautiful city of Seattle from the Penthouse suite.

 

 

February 7-9, 2019 – NEWH/Northwest attended the 2019 Leadership Conference in Miami! The Pacific Northwest Board represented their region in style this year when twenty-two of it’s board members attended the 2019 NEWH Leadership Conference in Miami FL! As a team, the chapter showed up to grow, be inspired and network with their industry peers at the highly regarded conference, then added their first board meeting of the 2019 year to the agenda to start off on a high note. The board meeting started with ice-breaking activities to enhance team bonding and good old fashion fun with the game of 4-Minutes to Win It; the board left with a set of goals and a strategic plan to foster the year to follow.

 

 

October 18, 2018 – We enjoyed touring the Hi-Lo Hotel in Portland! It was a fun evening of socializing with cocktails & appetizers from Alto Bajo and a behind the scenes look at their historic property!

 

 

 

 

September 20, 2018 – NEWH/Northwest Boise Sip & Social – We enjoyed happy hour at 10 Barrel Brewing Co in Boise. It was a great evening full of networking with designers, students, and industry representatives!

 

 

 

 

 

July 19, 2018 – NEWH/Northwest, Savor Uncorked – NEWH Northwest’s biggest event of the year is Savor Uncorked! This year it was held at The Foundry by Herban Feast. We had an extraordinary evening of outstanding food, wine and fabulous auction items. Our purpose of this event is to raise money for industry student scholarships, award our 2018 scholarship awards to deserving students, and honor our 2018 TOP ID design firm winners!

 

 

 

April 12, 2018 – NEWH/Northwest, Spring Hotel Tour – On April 12th we toured The Edgewater Hotel and wow, what a great experience! Not only were their standard rooms and suites top-notch and inspirational, The Edgewater staff was exceptional! The panel of designers and ownership was educational and entertaining. February 22, 2018 – NEWH/Northwest, Portland Member Appreciation – Our first member appreciation was held on February 22nd at Punch Bowl Social in Portland. We had a great night filled with networking, drinks, games and RAFFLES! All members who brought a “non-member” friend received 5 bonus raffle tickets. New members who signed up received a discounted membership! A special thank you to Garrett Leather, Down Etc & Carrie with Absolute Procurement for the awesome giveaways!

 

 

 

 

November 17, 2017 – The Northwest Chapter was proud to host a Fall Hotel Tour at The AC Hotel by Marriott in Downtown Portland on November 17th. With the help of Sera Architects, the AC brand showcases a design with rich Northwest influence with a focus on Portland culture and it’s local makers. Attendees were given the inside scoop on the project with a panel discussion made up of Interior designer, Becca Dobosh of Sera Architects, Art Consultant, Heidi McBride of Heidi McBride & Co, Purchaser, Jasmine Dudley of Absolute Procurement and Hotel GM Eric Endorf of AC Hotel in Downtown Portland. A hotel tour followed with the help of student liaisons from the Art Institute of Portland and included members of the panel who could speak to all of the details.

September 23, 2017 – On on September 23, 2017 Holland America hosted a tour of Eurodam cruise ship and of the new Holland America offices for a Chapter Level Business Membership Drive. The tour was followed by tasty treats and a tour of Meyer Wells nearby offices. All at no cost to NEWH. We gained 3 CLBM’s as well as a Business Plus Membership!

 

 

September 2017 – In late September, twelve designers, architects and product reps gathered for two nights of sketching, networking and wine tasting at Seattle’s Grand Image. Architect and designer Stephen Busto led the group in rediscovering the art of hand sketching and rendering of light, shade and shadow. This interactive workshop helped participants gain confidence in quickly communicating design concepts to clients and colleagues, with Grand Image’s beautiful studio and showroom as an inspiring backdrop. The Northwest chapter has since received requests to recreate Sip and Sketch in other cities and regional design schools, and it is sure to become an annual event.

 

August 31, 2017 – NEWH volunteered at the Oregon Food Bank on August 31st from 5:45-8:30 pm. We had 7 volunteers who helped inspect, sort and repack food for distribution to local food banks and meal programs. In total our group bagged 13,529 lbs of food! That is enough for 11,271 meals for individuals and families in need!

 

 

 

August 24, 2017 – NEWH Self Defense Class & Dignity for Diva Donations was held Thursday, August 24th from 6:00 – 7:30 pm at Gas Works Park in Seattle. We had a total of (19) members attend and Jarlo Ilano from Guardian Self Protection and fitness was our instructor. He had several assistants with him: Lorren Dullum from Ten Kicks Gym and Hilary Murphy from Guardian. Each member donated travel size personal items to “Dignity for Divas” as the entrance fee for the class. It was a beautiful, fun and informative hands on evening with a great view of Lake Union in the background. We literally “kicked” butt! 😉

 

July 13, 2017 – On Thursday, July 13th the Pacific Northwest Chapter held their annual fundraiser, Savor Uncorked. The event, held at the Foundry in downtown Seattle, was attended by more than 200 members of the Pacific Northwest hospitality industry and featured acknowledgment of our local Industry Leaders and 2017 Top ID winners; Dawson Design & Assoc., Degen &  Degen, and IDI (Interior Design Int’l). We also awarded $25,000 in scholarships to four very deserving recipients! Our top scholarship winner was Madalyn Pearson, a Hospitality Management student at Washington State University that was awarded $10,000. Our event also raised enough to fully fund our 2018 scholarships – a huge success!

 

 

June 8, 2017 – On June 8th several NEWH members volunteered 2 hours of their time at Food Lifeline in Seattle to help stop hunger. It was a fun evening as we sorted and packaged food for local food bank pantries and assembled snack bags for after school programs in the community. We were amazed at the effect that 21 volunteers had that evening. We were told that our 2 hours helped repackage 9,754 meals and provided 7,491 meals for families and children in Western Washington. Food Lifeline rescues millions of pounds of surplus food from farmers, manufacturers, grocery stores, and restaurants. They then deliver this healthy food to 275 food banks, shelters and meal programs across Western Washington. It was such a wonderful feeling that we had an opportunity to serve and make a difference in our community. Thank you Food Lifeline.

 

 

May 18, 2017 – NEWH NW and IIDA Oregon co-hosted a Forum centered around Biophilia – The Biophilic Experience. The event took place at The Ace Cleaners in downtown Portland, Oregon from 5:30 – 8:30 pm.

Matt Piccone and Sravya Garladenne gave a fascinating and interactive presentation focusing on relatively new and emerging field of Biophilia. An environment can create a strong positive memory fueling a desire to experience a space again and again. In their session, Matt and Sravya shared the journey through a sequence of spaces that contribute to a sense of wellbeing and connection to place. They took a deep dive into how sustainable design should include a healthy connection that humans make with their environment. The event was free to members of both organizations and was a great mixing of different elements of the Portland (& Seattle) design communities.

 

April 20, 2017 – The Northwest chapter hosted their Spring Hotel Tour at Thompson Hotel in Seattle, WA. A panel discussion lead by Kelli Groh with Z.Mundt Hospitality engaged the designers, chef and purchaser who worked on the hotel. Kirsten Murray with Olson Kundig, Matt Parker with Harbor Industries, Chef Josh Henderson with Huxley Wallace Collective, Carmen Sorenson (previously with Greyspace) & Sean Hatch with Hatch Purchasing. Attendees ended the hotel tour at the rooftop bar ‘The Nest’, which overlooks Pike Market and the Seattle waterfront.

 

 

 

March 2, 2017 – NEWH Northwest hosted a second membership drive in Portland, Oregon at Grand Central Bowl from 5:30 – 7:30 pm. Attendees enjoyed food, beverages, and strategically assigned bowling teams that encouraged networking! We gained 6 new members at this event.

 

 

 

 

 

February 2, 2017 – NEWH Northwest held their 2017 membership drive in Seattle, Washington at the Flatstick Pub on February 2nd from 5:30 – 9:00 pm. Attendees enjoyed food, beverages, networking and put-put golf! We gained 6 new members!

November 19, 2015 – NEWH Northwest, Guild Awards. Capped another successful year with our annual scholarship event. We awarded 9 recipients from schools across the Northwest in varying disciplines a total of $25,000. Thank you to our annual and event sponsors for allowing us to make this happen!

 

 

 

October 15, 2015 – NEWH/Northwest held a members only tour of the Palladian Hotel at 2000 Second Avenue in Seattle. Members enjoyed appetizers, signature cocktails and self-guided tours inside this trend-setting hotel.

 

 

 

September 22, 2015 – NEWH/Northwest held a photo booth at the NEWH Seattle Regional Tradeshow on September 22, 2015. Attendees had a great time!

 

 

 

 

July 16, 2015 – NEWH Northwest’s Chapter took their Annual Savor Uncorked fundraiser event to a new level this year… or should we say height?  Hosted atop Seattle’s iconic Space Needle, the NW Chapter drew in 175 attendees to take part in the annual wine tasting/pairing dinner event that continues to impress the NW industry each year.  This year the event raised a total of $22,000, with $6,000 coming from the raffle/auction that took place at the event.  New to the event this year, the Chapter organized a design competition for three teams of students who worked with Fil Doux fabrics, based out of NY, to design their own fabrics – modeled as dresses they created for various volunteers from firms within the industry here in the NW.  The student teams received help from mentors Stephanie Ellis-Carmody (IDI), Larissa Burden (ELK Design) and Denise Corso (Wright Group). April 30, 2015 – AirBnB panel discussion at Hotel Vintage in Portland, OR was held on April 30, 2015. A great success thanks to our sponsors for helping us host another great NEWH NW event. We started the evening with complimentary champagne toast, guests completed a self-guided tour of the hotel and had the opportunity to view 5 different room types The panel discussion sparked candid conversations about AirBnB and what we could learn from their business practices. Our group of fun loving snazzy dressed professionals surrounded by the smells and textures of wine country were enough to entice the general public to buy tickets and join.

January 26, 2015. Bier. Brats. Bocce. Network. Our membership drive was extremely successful this year. Adding 6 NEWHbies, along with 4 business memberships: The Wright Group; GGLO; Grey Space; and Weber+Thompson.  Attendees had the opportunity to win a $500 Amazon gift card as well as other prizes. They were encouraged to let their inner German/Austrian flag fly by wearing their best lederhosen in order to score additional raffle tickets. November 13, 2014 – NEWH Northwest, Elevate Awards. Topped off our year with our annual scholarship event, Elevate. Out of 16 applicants, we awarded 4 recipients from schools across the Pacific Northwest up to $15,000 in NEWH scholarships. We also honored our Executive Director, Stephanie Ellis-Carmody (Interior Design International), for serving 10 years on the NEWH NW Board of Directors.

 

 

October 3, 2014 – Hotel in the Pearl – Residence Inn by Marriott Portland Hotel Tour. Chapter members had the opportunity to tour the new Residence Inn hotel located in the Pearl District designed by a local firm, Sera Architects. The hotel recently opened last spring. Event attendees were encouraged to take part in a vendor scavenger hunt, finding Valley Forge, Brintons Carpet, Kimball casegoods, etc. The winner received a complimentary one night stay at the hotel!

 

 

July 24, 2014 – NEWH/Northwest chapter held its annual food & wine event ‘Savor Uncorked’ at the Atrium Kitchen at Pike Place Market. Attendees enjoyed dinner and wine pairing – and the event proceeds helped fund the future of the hospitality industry! Instagram contest winners are: Tied for first place, Jenna Tanner (Valley Forge) and Renee Herron (Dawson Design Associates); 2nd Place, Morgan Watson (Degen & Degen); Honorable Mention, Jennifer Fleming (Rice Fergus Miller).

 

 

 

May 8, 2014 – NEWH/Northwest chapter participated in a walk/run to raise funds to support the Mellick family during Sam’s treatment at Seattle Children’s Hospital.

Fall, 2013 – NEWH/Northwest chapter collected donations leading up the their Honors Awards last year. Everyone in the design community was asked to donate toiletries – the donations were taken to the women’s shelter as the chapter’s community service event. Thank you to all who donated!
