NEWH Toronto became an official chapter in November 1984. We have experienced steady growth in membership and currently sit at 153. Our members represent all sectors of the industry including manufacturer’s representatives, purchasers, owners, architects, designers, educational professionals and students.
Toronto continues to be a major centre for the hospitality industry in Canada and is home to many of the top hotel companies in the world including Four Seasons Hotel & Resorts, Fairmont Raffles Hotels International, Marriot Hotels of Canada, and Delta Hotels & Resorts. We are fortunate to have several of these companies represented within our membership.
According to statistics provided by the Ontario Restaurant Hotel Motel Association, the hospitality industry in Ontario accounts for approximately 3,000 properties and directly employs over 400,000 Ontarians. Ontario’s hospitality industry generates nearly $18.5 billion in annual sales or 4.3% of the provincial GDP. Further to that, the Greater Toronto Hotel Association estimates that they are currently representing 170 hotels or 35,600 rooms and that these properties are employing nearly 32,000 people.
