The objective of the Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity Committee is to promote an environment of Equity, Inclusion and Diversity within NEWH, Inc. and NEWH Chapters/Regional Groups by focusing on programs that provide scholarships, networking opportunities, education, and recognition of the work and achievements of our members.

Why EID and not DEI? Here are some thoughts from members about the acronym.

I never thought about leading with the E, but I actually really like that idea. Equity requires the most action and not just talk. Equity involves putting resources into developing and elevating marginalized communities. And like your consultant said, the access leads to inclusion and diversity. Equity requires work and is so important!

Diversity initiatives should focus on ensuring equity and inclusion in pattern and practice which ultimately yields diversity

Ultimately, whatever language you decide to use should be the result of a dialogue about the what and why of your equity work and the final decision should center the voices of those who are most impacted by inequities in your sector.
