We are looking for a creative hospitality designer to help us develop a new luxury resort brand! Projects include all aspects of a resort: guestrooms, suites, lobbies, restaurants, bars, pools, spa, conference space, BOH, and corporate offices. Minimum 5 years’ experience in a broad range of hospitality design projects; luxury hospitality preferred.

As a Senior Designer, you will work in a self-directed manner in all aspects of the interior design process, including preparation of presentation materials, schematic design, design development, contract documents, renderings and construction administration activities within an established schedule, site and programmatic requirements.

This is a hybrid position based out of the Manassas, VA office. The position will be reporting to the Senior Director, Design.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Independently performs assignments with instructions to the general results expected from management.
  • Prepares preliminary design concepts and alternatives for review by management.
  • Leads the selection of FF&E materials, space planning and programming for design projects.
  • Prepares drawings and documentation for schematic design, design development and construction documents, and FF&E specification phases.
  • Supervises and mentors design teams to ensure required project tasks are accurately executed.
  • Leads design efforts and coordination with consultants throughout the design process.
  • Acts as day-to-day contact for project design development and design related issues.
  • Supports and complements management at meetings.
  • Experienced in all phases and aspects of the design process including predesign, design documentation, FF&E specifications, construction administration and FF&E procurement.
  • Advanced understanding of color, materials and finishes.
  • Participates in industry events, forums, and conferences as required.
  • Communicates employee development of junior designers to management.
  • Implements all planning and design into AutoCAD.
  • Present clear and concise concepts.
  • Ensures daily and weekly tasks are completed.
  • Excels at demonstrating and leading by example with a collaborative and professional work ethic.
  • With minimal supervision, leads all efforts into producing a set of construction documents including working with consultants.
  • With minimal supervision, can create interior design details including custom millwork, bars, ceiling sections, etc.
  • Interested in all areas of design including interior architecture, furniture design, and graphic design.
  • Possesses a strong understanding of design principles and theory.
  • Accomplished understanding and display of design principles and theory.
  • Displays strong creative interior design skills including concept development and thinks outside the box.
  • Exercises creative judgment and design application skills in preparing client presentation materials including: graphic sketches, renderings, and selection of colors, materials, finishes and furniture.

Management & Leadership

  • Meets regularly with management to discuss design direction, general tasks, project challenges, schedules, upcoming meetings and deadlines.
  • Responsible for organizing and maintaining accurate records of all project-related FF&E and finish selections.
  • Attends meetings as requested by management, takes notes, and provides documentation of meeting notes.
  • Executes delivery of documents, samples and general correspondence to consultants as needed.
  • Collaborate with Senior Director and Vice President to fully understand service needs and suggest improvements for how we as an agency can work better.
  • Support agency culture through leadership integrity, transparent communication and demonstration of Dessin’s core values.

Technical Skills

  • Knowledge of building codes, standards and building systems and structures.
  • Understands conventional construction methods and techniques and how to document them appropriately.
  • Experience in furniture design and construction methods for high-use hospitality environments.
  • Experience in FF&E specification writing.
  • Knowledge of conventional construction methods and techniques and how to document them appropriately.
  • Produces AutoCAD design drawings including elevations, sections, details.
  • Produces in Excel, architectural/finish schedules.
  • Produces presentations in InDesign.
  • Performs shop drawings and submittals reviews at the direction of management.
  • Supervises and/or performs site observations and installations as required by management.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Photoshop, InDesign, Microsoft Excel.
  • Some knowledge of Revit and SketchUp with a desire to advance knowledge in both programs.

Experience & Education

  • Minimum 8+ years of experience in broad range of hospitality Interior Design.
  • Bachelor/ Master’s Degree from an accredited Interior Design/Architecture program.
  • Degrees must come from a CIDA-accredited Interior Design program or NAAB-accredited Architecture program.
  • Current registration with NCIDQ or state architectural licensing board preferred.
  • Familiarity of construction materials, Furniture, Fixtures and Equipment (FF&E) specifications/ providers, particularly as applicable to the hospitality industry is a plus.
  • Experience with the entire project lifecycle, through post-occupancy.
  • Experience leading, managing and mentoring project teams and junior staff.
