Welcome 2017
Welcome to Denver and the 2017 NEWH Leadership Conference! The Leadership Conference provides us with the opportunity to stretch our minds, engage with our peers, and bring new information and practices to our work environment. This year, our keynote speakers will set the stage for conquering great heights, exploring how kindness can be a driver in your everyday work, and how music indeed soothes the soul. Beyond our extraordinary keynote speakers, we have sessions, round tables, and workshops that will provide you with the opportunity to fine tune skill sets, expand your knowledge base, and listen to our industry leaders as they engage in provocative and relevant conversations. This three-day conference kicks off with what has become a cornerstone event of NEWH, the ever-popular, Product Showcase tradeshow. An in-demand event, it stages the day prior to the Conference and is the start point of our time together in Denver. As the preeminent hospitality industry nonprofit organization, NEWH is the networking resource for the industry. The mission of NEWH to offer relevant education, and thought provoking information that will assist in building businesses and strengthen the future of the hospitality industry, cannot be achieved without your assistance. Our focus has always been, and remains, to raise funds needed for the bright and deserving students, from many credible institutions, who wish to enter this tremendous and exciting market segment. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to our host NEWH chapter here in Denver and to the many Conference sponsors whose support allows us to grow and maintain the quality event that this Conference has become. We hope that you enjoy your time with us in Denver, feed your minds with the riveting content of the many sessions presented here, and extend your own hospitality network over the next three days. Thank you for joining us! In the Spirit of Networking, Trisha Poole President, NEWH, Inc.

What We Mean When We Talk About Sustainability 2017
Josh Radoff discusses if youâre thinking about sustainability as a collection of ponderous rating systems to navigate, youâre stuck in a 1.0 version that became popular in 2005 and gave everyone green fatigue by 2012. Today, sustainability in the built environment has exploded to encompass a whole range of focus areas, technologies, and business models, from solar microgrids, to autonomous and electric vehicles, and from human health and well-being to behavioral economics. Hospitality projects tend to be some of the best opportunities to embrace these concepts, as guest experience creates the rationale for leaving behind the business as usual. In this talk, Josh will explore these topics, as well as his experience in working with everything from large hotel chains, remote resorts, product manufacturers, and urban boutiques.

Composing Your World 2017
As a classical violinist turned innovative composer, Kai Kight uses music as a metaphor to inspire individuals and organizations across the world to compose paths of imagination and fulfillment. Inspired by his own mother who, when diagnosed with cancer, revealed regrets of not bringing her ideas to the world, Kai is on a mission to spark a global mindset shift in which ingenuity is the norm, not the exception. In his emotionally powerful presentations, Kai performs mesmerizing original music and vulnerably shares stories from his own transformation as an artist. Kai translates these insights into takeaways that audiences can easily infuse into their own lives and work environments. A product of Stanford Universityâs design and engineering program, the d. School, Kai remains fascinated by the leaders, artists, and companies who dare to be different. As both a Mayfield Fellow and Kleiner Perkins Design Fellow, Kai has proven himself as a leader of the next generation of innovative and entrepreneurial talent. As a musician, Kai has performed his original music for thousands in venues across the world, from the White House to the Great Wall of China. As a speaker, he has created impactful experiences for audiences at conferences, companies, and universities internationally. Some of his clients include The Walt Disney Company, PricewaterhouseCoopers, and the Super-bowl winning Seattle Seahawks. His mesmerizing and original violin performance beautifully becomes a sonic metaphor for the core of his message: to inspire people to compose unique ideas in a world that celebrates conformity.
